The Alliance is thrilled to be opening our second sketch revue tonight!
We have been working for weeks with Amanda Murphy our musical director on music for THERE GOES THE GAYBARHOOD. We have had such fun material and so much of it. This show features 12 new songs about the gay bar, the gaybarhood, and everything in between.
I wanted to write a quick sneak peak for anyone that is curious about the show. The 12 songs start and end in the gay bar, but the Alliance always marries straight and gay themes together in the creation process. We therefore focus on relationships in general (including but not limited to): a straight couple for the first time in a gay bar, an open mic night with a fun loving lesbian couple, two best friends that find their way at karaoke night, a bartender that just can’t be pleased, and a glimpse of what the gay bar looked like 70 years ago. This musical revue (yes, aside from dialogue before and after songs– it is all music, all the time) is directed by Meredith Melville (me) and features 6 funny singing actors: Patrick Serrano, Bev Bailey, Courtney Fontaine, Molly Todd, Christian Vernon, and Andrew Kraft. Music direction and music composition by the amazing Amanda Murphy.
The cast brings to life the characters as we travel through time in songs. If you wondered if there was dancing, of course. There are a few surprises up our sleeves too (we will reveal them tonight!). We hope to see you there!
